At the beginning of the month, I set my goals here.

How did I do during the second week?

  • Writing: I met my goal, working through another round of great feedback from the mentors and participants from the First Five Pages workshop. My second revision goes up for review later today, and after one last revision round, those pages should be ready! I also revised my next five pages, taking that same feedback into account.
  • Swimming: A repeat of last week: I only ended up swimming three days instead of four, because once again, I was thwarted by a snowstorm.
  • Reading: I finished the next book in my stack of award-winners (YAQUI DELGADO WANTS TO KICK YOUR ASS by Meg Medina)–not surprised at all that it won the Pura Belpré award. I also finished a research-y book (BERLIN! BERLIN! by Kurt Tucholsky) and the Newbery honoree (DOLL BONES by Holly Black).

What are my goals for this week?

  • Writing: Revise first five pages once more as part of the workshop and revise ten more pages in a similarly meticulous manner.
  • Swimming: Swim or winter exercise four days!
  • Reading: Read the next book in the award-winning stack (THE LIVING by Matt de la Peña).

Hope #WriterRecharge is going well and that you have another great week in store!

  1. Hello, fellow rulebreaker! 🙂 Looks like things are going well for you. Hope things go well as we continue into next week.

  2. Thwarted by a snowstorm and still swimming 3 times a week 🙂 pretty good! (I’m switching up the perspective :P))
Congrats on reaching your writing goal! And cheering you on for this coming week!

    • Haha, that’s true. Any swimming is better than no swimming. And we got to go out and cross-country ski today, so that was fun too (just more chilly than a warm pool). Have a great week!

  3. Good job with your goals this week, Kip! The First Five Pages workshop sounds like something you’re getting a lot out of, which is great. Maybe I can benefit from your growing expertise… 🙂

    Have a great week!

  4. Awesome progress! And I know that winter storm thing. It’s thwarted my exercising efforts too! 😦 I’m so ready for spring.

    Good luck this week!

  5. You must be very strong and fit, with all that swimming that you do. I’m just curious to know if you swim in an outdoor pool, at this time of year, or do you do it in an indoor pool?

    • I guess I am somewhat fit. Not so sure about the strong though, hee.And OMG I would die in an outdoor pool right now. I go to our YMCA where it’s usually a nice 82 degrees. 🙂

  6. Excited to hear where you are after your five pages workshopping is over. It sounds like a really interesting exercise. Also–3 days is still really great for winter exercise. Have a great week!

    • Same to you! I definitely still have a lot to revise on the other 200 pages *coughs* but it’s nice to have a strong beginning to set the stage.

  7. Ooh, I’ve been wanting to read DOLL BONES. I think I’m going to read it with my girl one day soon. I love Holly Black’s writing! Best of luck with all of your goals in the coming week, and congrats on all you’ve accomplished!

  8. My reading goal went really well last week and I hope that continues as well. Reading to me is like breathing life into my writing mind. I always have so much more energy to write after I read something good! have a productive week!
